Planning Inspectorate’s attempt to water down net zero buildings policies found to be unlawful

The TCPA is delighted that the High Court has quashed the Planning Inspectorate’s attempt to water down net zero buildings policies in the Salt Cross Area Action Plan. The judgement upholds the right of local authorities to set planning policies that deliver net zero homes and highlights the confusing mess that the Government has created in national policy on planning for climate change.

Since the court hearing, a new Written Ministerial Statement (WMS) which seeks to restrict local authorities from pursuing similar policies has been published, and our attention now turns to addressing this setback. Read the TCPA’s response to the 13 December 2023 WMS and local plan policy for net zero.
